The Real Face Of Jesus

The Real Face Of Jesus

Advances in forensic science reveal the most famous face in history.

BY MIKE FILLON From the first time Christian children settle into Sunday school classrooms, an image of Jesus Christ is etched into their minds. In North America he is most often depicted as being taller than his disciples, lean, with long, flowing, light brown hair, fair skin and light-colored eyes. Familiar though this image may be, it is inherently flawed. A person with these features and physical bearing would have looked very different from everyone else in the region where Jesus lived and ministered. Surely the authors of the Bible would have mentioned so stark a contrast. On the contrary, according to the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane before the Crucifixion, Judas Iscariot had to indicate to the soldiers whom Jesus was because they could not tell him apart from his disciples. Further clouding the question of what Jesus looked like is the simple fact that nowhere in the New Testament is Jesus described, nor have any drawings of him ever been uncovered. There is the additional problem of having neither a skeleton nor other bodily remains to probe for DNA. In the absence of evidence, our images of Jesus have been left to the imagination of artists. The influences of the artists’ cultures and traditions can be profound, observes Carlos F. Cardoza-Orlandi, associate professor of world Christianity at Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta. “While Western imagery is dominant, in other parts of the world he is often shown as black, Arab or Hispanic.” And so the fundamental question remains: What did Jesus look like?

An answer has emerged from an exciting new field of science: forensic anthropology. Using methods similar to those police have developed to solve crimes, British scientists, assisted by Israeli archeologists, have re-created what they believe is the most accurate image of the most famous face in human history.

One of the most worldly forms of existence is the life of laziness. Lazy people believe they are entitled to all the benefits the world has to offer yet they contribute nothing. WAIT! Before you condemn the officially lazy, do some introspection. Did you buy your lottery tickets this week? Did you enter the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes? Why did you enter them? Was it to put your children through college? NO WAY! The first thing people say is, “If I win the lottery or contest, I am going to quit my job and take a long vacation.” Every contest entrant is seeking an easy way to release themselves from daily responsibilities. This shows the typical human traits of greed and laziness.

What does the Bible have to say about laziness? Do we as Christians have the right to sit around and pick the pockets of hard working people? Of course, I am not targeting those who are physically handicapped and are unable to procure outside employment. I am targeting those who can work but do not desire to. In scanning the Scriptures, I would like to discuss 21 Scriptures which deal with laziness. They apply to believers and unbelievers. Scriptures taken are from the King James Bible.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 6:9-11 KJV) How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? {10} Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: {11} So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Both the robber and the armed man come upon their victim in a flash. The victim does not know what is happening until they are in the middle of it. The victim of a robbery may lose their life. The lazy person is doomed to poverty and this poverty will come in an instant and they will be unprepared to deal with it. They will refuse to work or seek a solution to their problem because this will interrupt their lazy lifestyle. When struck with reality, some lazy people lose their most prized possession, their lazy lifestyle.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 10:5 KJV) He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

A person who seeks opportunity to be a diligent servant is a wise person, for they will not lack in lean times. The lazy person who refuses opportunity, because it will interrupt their TV time, are a shame and a discredit to their family. A lazy Christian is a disgrace to the family of God.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 10:26 KJV) As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

Vinegar and smoke are both repulsive irritants to the body. When a lazy person is sent to do a job, they normally seek to cut as many corners as possible to get the task done, even if it is done incorrectly. The diligent person and the lazy person have different views on commitment and responsibility. The lazy person angers the one who dispatched him to do the job. In a body of diligent workers the lazy person is an odious irritant.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 12:24 KJV) The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Those who work diligently will have a reward of promotion. Lazy people never succeed because of their attitude. They will be made to do physical labor whenever involved with a project or job. Their laziness will keep them at the bottom. The biblical process of success always begins with prayer and intense application of one’s talents, abilities, and spiritual gifts.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 12:27 KJV) The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

The lazy man goes hunting but never enjoys his catch because he is too lazy to clean his catch. They always want someone else to do the work while they enjoy fruits of someone else’s labor. Perseverance and determination are more valuable than gold and silver. Lazy people have only one major trait, to leave when the work starts.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 13:4 KJV) The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

The lazy man desires but never possesses because he is too lazy to pursue a goal and persevere in reaching that goal. He cries poverty, but will not seek a job. Those who persist in tough times while seeking a goal will normally achieve it, and will profit from it both spiritually and physically. (Prov 15:19 KJV) The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 15:19 KJV) The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

The lazy person is like a thorny hedge. Whoever comes in contact with a thorn will bleed. The excuses of a lazy man are like hedges without flowers. They are just thorns. Their ways are as useful as thorns to the human touch. You can do without them. The lazy man’s ways must be avoided, for they are as thorns. The upright person’s way is smooth as a six lane highway, which has no hindrances to movement.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 18:9 KJV) He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

A lazy person attempts to get his ideas accepted by others. If he is successful both work and projects fail. Laziness breeds destruction, to both the lazy person and the one who incorporates his ideas into their life. He is poison to God’s people.

———————————————————————————————————

Prov 19:15 KJV) Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

Laziness stupefies one to the world around him, especially concerning the lost souls of our generation. Idleness is laziness under a different name. These people will also be hungry for the things of the world. They will crave and never be satisfied. They will not even bring pen and paper to Bible study, just their physical appetites.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 19:24 KJV) A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

This is the ultimate in laziness. The lazy man has before him the physical provisions of life but he is so lazy he does not even want to lift his hand to his mouth to put the food in. It is the same with those who shower once a week (or less) that have the shower available to them each day. Those who do not want to shower are just plain lazy. This is compared to the Christian who have the Bible but will not open it to get the truths of God into their mind.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 20:4 KJV) The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

Here the lazy man will refuse to work and his excuse will be that it is too cold outside. This act of laziness will cause him to beg, but he will receive nothing. The lazy man has many excuses which he believes are valid to make his case. He sincerely believes that others will sympathize with his lame excuses.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 20:13 KJV) Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

Do not be comatose to the physical and spiritual world around you as the lazy man is. Life and opportunity pass the lazy man by and since he is self-centered, despair and poverty will come upon him. God warns us to stay awake, become involved, focus on others and you will be blessed. We are not to have a love affair with laziness.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 21:25-26 KJV) The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour. {26} He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

The covetousness of the lazy person eats him from the inside like a cancer. He is jealous of others who are prosperous but refuses to work to earn a living. These emotions of envy and greed, when allowed to intensify over the years will cause physical problems and affect vital organs and could lead to death. The righteous realize that all they own belongs to God. They give liberally without apprehension but the covetous, lazy man lusts after more of the world’s goods. The lottery was tailor made for him.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 22:13 KJV) The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

The lazy man lives on excuses of why he cannot do this or that. In reality he is just too lazy to do anything and cares not if he is needed by someone else. It is not that he cannot do something, he will not. It is like the person who says they cannot get up for Sunday School, they are just too lazy.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 23:21 KJV) For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

The same reward awaits the drunkard, glutton, and lazy man. They will be brought down to a base level of life. Apparently, God views laziness as a sin equal with drunkenness and gluttony. Drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor. 6:9-10) This may also be a warning to those who are drunk on the self-centered life.

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 24:30-34 KJV) I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; {31} And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. {32} Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. {33} Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: {34} So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

The lazy man is a lesson to the believer, that laziness will bring a person to ruin. The lazy man’s work is vain, because they are carelessly attended to. Lazy people lack understanding in situations where they are not the beneficiaries. When you see a lazy person, learn from him and if you see any of his habits cropping up in your life, you will be able to halt the drifting and return to a disciplined life. The lazy man’s ways will eventually mushroom till his destruction will come like a thief in the night. Fast and furious!

———————————————————————————————————

(Prov 26:13-16 KJV) The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. {14} As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. {15} The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. {16} The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

The lazy man does not live his life from faith to faith, but excuse to excuse. A door turns on its hinges but it never moves from the place it is attached to. The lazy man turns on his bed, but does not get out of it. When he is out of it, he wishes he was back in it. The same attitude prevails in the people that sleep till 11:00 and still are too lazy to get up. He sleeps half the day, he gets up and puts the TV on to waste the rest of the day. He is too lazy to nourish himself so he waits for someone to feed him. If you say he is living a wrong lifestyle, he will laugh, because in his mind, you are the one void of understanding. In reality, the lazy man is the one Satan has bewitched. Proverbs 26:12 says: “Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.”

———————————————————————————————————

(Mat 25:26 KJV) His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Here is a parable of a servant who was given a talent by his master when he took a journey. The master expected the servant to deal wisely and gain more talents but this servant decided to bury it. The lazy servant did not understand the desires of his master and didn’t bother to find out either. When the master returned, the servant’s punishment was to be cast into outer darkness. Lazy Christians believe because they have not been zapped by God that everything is fine. Remember Proverbs 26:12 which spoke about a man that was wise in his own eyes. Today we have the Bible in its completed form and we can know what God requires of us. The lazy believer better wake up because God deals with His people as well as the unbeliever. We will not escape the chastisement of God because we are saved! (Rom 13:11-12 KJV) And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. {12} The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

With each day we are closer to the return of Christ and yet many continue to sleep. We have a mandate to reach the lost of our generation. (Acts 13:36) Yet many choose to remain spiritually dormant. Laziness is a work of darkness and must be shunned. These works must be cast off.

———————————————————————————————————

(1 Th 5:6 KJV) Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

We must be watchmen in our generation and involved. The salvation of souls is our top priority, not our own desires. We must not live for ourselves but for Christ who bought us. Laziness concerns itself only with fulfilling its own lusts.

———————————————————————————————————

(2 Th 3:10 KJV) For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

The final admonition is that lazy people are not to be tolerated. If they choose not to work, neither should they be fed freely or given handouts. Handouts only confirm their reasoning that they are right and you are wrong.

———————————————————————————————————

Laziness is a heinous sin and must be dealt with as one deals with drunkenness and gluttony. Lazy people are dangerous and can pollute entire groups with their schemes. Lazy Christians must be considered sinning brethren and dealt with accordingly for their own good. If we continue to coddle lazy people, they can manipulate us into believing we are the bad guys if we don’t give them a handout. If you want to break the laziness-excuse cycle then exchange your easy chair for some type of work. Volunteer at the church, library, first aid squad, et al. The more you work, the more you become acclimated to a work day, and the laziness will soon depart. I believe we have answered our initial question, “Does the Bible have anything to say about laziness?” Don’t you?

Was Jesus Religious?

Was Jesus Religious?

“I’m after mercy, not religion.”

Hosea 6:6 The Message

“Christ came when all things were growing old. He made them new.”

Augustine

Would Jesus be comfortable attending an average church service today? I’m not so sure. You have to wonder at least, don’t you? First, I’m not so sure he would sit still for that long.

Second, in some churches, if Jesus showed up as a visitor, he would be ignored. In others, just plain bored. Even though in our church architecture we have certainly succeeded in stamping him onto our stain glass windows, I’m not so sure we could get him to stay seated in one of our pews.

The more I looked at the Jesus of the Bible the more I found someone quite different than religion makes him out to be. Our stained glass images portray him as a soft, mild-mannered milk-toast sort of a man, while the Bible shows him turning over tables in the temple in defiance of the religious leaders of his day. Ironically, the people he upset the most were not political leaders or pagans, or criminals, but the religious.

Instead of searching far enough to find out his true nature, too often I had, instead, tried to make him into my image. Rather than finding out his purpose for my life, I had hoped that he would simply help me realize my own aspirations, my potentials. Instead of looking for the “big idea” in Scripture and discovering what God is truly after, I had, like many others, adopted the religious notions passed down to me. While Jesus offered nothing short of a spiritual transformation, I had settled for a weekly dose of religious information; Hardly what he intended; Hardly worth the price of a cross.

The more I searched, the more I saw that the Jesus of the Bible blows all our stereotypes. If you want to get to know him, I mean really know him, as he truly is … you may be in for some surprises. I surely was. If you come with an open mind and heart, be prepared. He will not only inspire you; he will challenge, confront and stir you as no person ever has or ever could.

Christianity is not a faith built on our terms, but on Christ’s. And clearly the love that allowed him to endure this sin-riddled earth and the agony of the cross was a love riveted on winning not our blind religious efforts, but our loving and heartfelt devotion.
This blog challenge you to look at Jesus through kingdom eyes not with carnal church eyes.
The modern day Jesus(as if that was possible)  is a fictionally depicted personality conceived by personally beliefs of some churches. Jesus is not your version of what you think he should look like as we see in the diverse churches today.
We cannot mold him to fit own pigmentation. The book of Isaiah and perhaps psalms are the only books that offer some insight into his earthly appearance.
However, some churches has attempted to use Jesus appearance in the same as they have used scripture to justify  hate and man-made traditions. This author suggest that you read the bible with a spiritual eye, free from man dogma.

Why the Poor Hate Themselves

Why the Poor Hate Themselves

Original written by Kurt Vonnegut on May 11,  2011

America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, “It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.” It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: “if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?” There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand – glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register.

Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.

If certain people had their way*, poverty would be a complete barrier to success in America, and we’d be back to serfdom.

* As a pre-emptive note to the misguided, who believe, for some reason**, that liberal-minded people want nothing more than “power” over the masses, and for that reason, engage in policies designed to keep people down … well, that’s just a foolish and misguided thing to think. I’ve grown tired over the past eight years of explaining why. Just trust me on this one. You should stop thinking that way.

** You think this — if, in fact this is what you think — because you’ve been brainwashed. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has done its job well.

America where is your Glory

ImageI was once a loyal Republican who would argue with you all day about the greatness of the Republican party however, when George Bush and his neoconservative friends that lied this country into a war, my faith begin to shake.

Nevertheless, it was not until the day I was sitting in my living room and slowly look up from bible and saw my young twenty-year-old daughter dressed in her BDU.  She was about to deploy to Iraq.

This young woman was about to go fight in war which not could have but should have been avoided.  My little skinny stepdaughter seen to be in a daze but never showed fear because she was Army proud.

This was the day that I stop being a Republican.  I went into my bedroom and cried because I support a party that was sending my daughter to war.  I never told her how I felt about the war and her commander in chief George Bush.  My former party sent men and women into a war to die because the president wanted to be better than his daddy was.

Therefore, I ask America where your glory is.  Have you sold it to old men that sit in their penthouse and mansions forcing their plutocratic beliefs upon you?  Billionaires that command their employees with threat of layoffs just to control their votes, so I ask America where is your glory.

Is it possible that wealthy American no longer have the patriotism that was witnessed during World War II?  I venture to say yes.  American will not admit this on a large scale but the reality is we have become selfish.

We tend to only care, how my family will take that vacation instead of wondering does the Jones next door have anything to eat.  I would say our moral compass have long been broken.

Case in point, this past 2012 election was a revelation of greed in American as shown by billionaires attempting to buy the United States government along with the individual states.  The sad thing I found in this country is the American people are allowing it.

America we have seen the good and bad in country but understand this we need to fight for the glory that make this country great.  We claim on our money “In God We Trust” but it seems that we really trust the plutocracy concept of greed instead of fairness.

In conclusion, I must ask the body of Christ where is your outrage with this greedy.  Maybe I should ask are you part of the greed yourself.  No.  Greed is not good.

Paula Broadwell May Have Revealed Classified Information About The Benghazi Attack

Paula Broadwell May Have Revealed Classified Information About The Benghazi Attack

by Michael Kelley | Nov. 12, 2012, 12:38 PM | 3,196

Paula Broadwell, the biographer and mistress of now-former CIA Director David Petraeus, revealed sensitive if not classified information about the Sept. 11 attack on a U.S. mission in Benghazi during a talk on Oct. 26 in Denver, Blake Hounshell of Foreign Policy reports.

“Now I don’t know if a lot of you heard this, but the CIA annex [to the consulate] had actually—had taken a couple of Libyan militia members prisoner and they think that the attack on the consulate was an effort to try to get these prisoners back,” Broadwell, a former military intelligence officer, said in response to a audience question about Benghazi.

The CIA adamantly denied the claims a couple of hours after Israeli news outlet Arutz Sheva first published a partial transcript of Broadwell’s speech.

But a source told Fox News today that “there were Libyan militiamen being held at the CIA annex in Benghazi and that their presence was being looked at as a possible motive for the staged attack on the consulate and annex that night.”

Furthermore, multiple intelligence sources who have served in Benghazi told Fox News that prisoners from additional countries in Africa and the Middle East were also held and interrogated by CIA contractors at the Benghazi annex in the days prior to the attack.

Later on in the answer, Broadwell added another layer to the potential motive for an attack when she says “it’s true that we have signal intelligence that shows the, um, the militia members in Libya were watching the demonstration in Cairo and it did sort of galvanize their effort.”

Broadwell’s remarks certainly add to the CIA intrigue surrounding the attack that killed four Americans at two locations.

Paula Broadwell & David Petraeus

By Associated Press, Published: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 9:01 PM

WASHINGTON — Paula Broadwell first met fellow West Point graduate David Petraeus in the spring of 2006, when she was a graduate student at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

He was a lieutenant general working on a counterinsurgency manual that would be tested during his command in Iraq. The university had invited him to give a speech.

Broadwell was in the Army Reserve after being recalled three times to active duty since the Sept. 11 attacks to work on counterterrorism issues and intended to return to active duty or get into the policy world, according to the preface of the Petraeus biography she would later write with a Washington Post editor.

Petraeus, who held much-praised military commands in Iraq and Afghanistan, resigned Friday after admitting he had an extramarital affair, a disclosure that ended the retired four-star general’s civilian career as director of the CIA.

He carried on the affair with Broadwell, now 40, according to several U.S. officials with knowledge of the situation. The officials spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss publicly the investigation that led to the resignation. The FBI discovered the relationship by monitoring Petraeus’ emails, after investigators were alerted that Broadwell may have had access to his personal email account, two of the officials said.

Broadwell wrote in the preface to “All In: The Education of General David Petraeus,” published by Penguin in January, that while at Harvard, Petraeus passed along his card and offered to help her academic work on leadership. The book’s ranking on Amazon.com jumped from 76,792 on Friday to 111 by midday Saturday.

“I later discovered that he was famous for this type of mentoring and networking, especially with aspiring soldier-scholars,” Broadwell wrote, adding that “I took full advantage of his open-door policy to seek insight and share perspectives.”

Broadwell is a research associate at Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership and a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, according to her biography on Penguin’s website. According to The Bismarck (N.D.) Tribune, she grew up in North Dakota and moved to Charlotte, N.C., more than three years ago with her husband, a radiologist, and their two young sons.

The book began as research for her dissertation, a case study of Petraeus’ leadership. It evolved into an authorized biography written with Washington Post editor Vernon Loeb after President Barack Obama put Petraeus in charge of Afghanistan in 2010.

Two years earlier, she wrote in the book’s preface, while visiting Washington he had invited her to join him and his team for a run along the Potomac River.

“I’d earned varsity letters in cross-country and indoor and outdoor track and finished at the top of my class for athletics at West Point; I wanted to see if he could keep stride during an interview. Instead it became a test for me,” she wrote. He eventually increased the pace “until the talk turned to heavy breathing, and we reached a 6-minute-per-mile pace. It was a signature Petraeus move. I think I passed the test, but I didn’t bother to transcribe the interview.”

In the Army Reserve, she specialized in military intelligence, spending time at the U.S. Special Operations Command and the FBI Counterterrorism Task Forces before pursuing an academic career, according to her Penguin bio. She “lived, worked, or traveled in more than 60 countries during more than 15 years of military service and work in geopolitical analysis and counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations,” her bio states.

Broadwell made multiple trips to Afghanistan, with unprecedented access to Petraeus, and also spent time with his commanders across the country.

When Petraeus left the military and took the job at the CIA, Broadwell kept in contact with him and sometimes was invited to his office for events such as his meeting with actress Angelina Jolie.

“History has yet to fully judge Petraeus’ service in Iraq and Afghanistan, his impact on the U.S. military and his rank among America’s wartime leaders,” Broadwell wrote in the preface. “But there is no denying that he achieved a great deal during his 37-year Army career, not the least of which was regaining the strategic initiative in both wars” after Sept. 11, 2001.

“His critics fault him for ambition and self-promotion. I will note in the pages that follow that he is driven and goal-oriented, but his energy, optimism and will to win stand out more for me than the qualities seized on by his critics.”

In an interview with The Bismarck Tribune shortly after the biography was published, Broadwell said Petraeus was a motivational force not only for organizations but individuals as well.

“He inspires people of all ages to improve themselves. On that note, I would conclude that his sheer energy whether applied to soldiering, scholarly pursuits, public outreach or mentoring can be equally empowering for an organization or an individual subordinate,” Broadwell said.

With the book done, Broadwell told friends she was returning to her dissertation, using part of her research on Petraeus to complete her doctorate.
